Excursions
Set off on full or partial day treks with a private guide. If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can camp out under the stars in some of the local campsites, supported by a team of guides, cooks and porters.
Whether you’re a keen birder, or would love to see the Gelada monkeys or some of the rarer animals of the park, Limalimo is a fabulous base from which to explore the mountains.
At Brilliant, we also love the chance to visit the villages - particularly Limalimo village nearby - and experience a coffee ceremony, or just relax around the lodge here on the roof of Africa.

Opened in 2015 and with just 12 rooms, Limalimo lodge has quickly become one of the best hotels in Ethiopia, and is often booked out many months in advance.
Fortunately for you, they’re building more and their service is improving all the time as they host more and more happy visitors.
Whilst Ethiopia often struggles to provide ‘world-class’ accommodation, Limalimo is one of the few that deserves its reputation.

Location and Design
Limalimo is 10 mins drive from Debark (the entrance town to the Simien Mountains) and is perched on the edge of an escarpment, offering extraordinary views of the Simien range.
Built with the environment in mind, with rammed earth and thatch, the hotel blends into the landscape. Rooms are simple, offering a blend of Ethiopian design and contemporary finishes.
Do spend time at the fire pit if you want to spend time outside with a view of the extraordinary stars (the Simiens are renowned for their excellent star-gazing) or guests can also indulge in one of the regular yoga sessions or receive a massage!

Food and Drink
There is a restaurant and bar, with a terrace that overlooks the Simiens.
The meals use local ingredients that are - where possible - sourced from local suppliers. The food is great and there is a good mixture of local cuisine and Western dishes in case you’re in need.
If you feel like pushing the boat out, Champagne breakfasts might just make someone’s day.
Rooms and Pricing
There are 12 rooms, all en-suite with private balconies that are found throughout the 10-hectare site with a number of new rooms being built.
The rooms are simple, yet luxurious with comfortable beds and minimal fuss. Each room features floor-to-ceiling windows with fantastic views - all of the rooms have great views, with none being much better than others.

Responsible Tourism
Limalimo is a fantastic example of the best of tourism.
Conceived by local guides, built by people from the Simien park and incorporating many of the best architectural elements - it manages to be one of the best hotels in Ethiopia whilst also being sensitive to the delicate local environment and employing many local staff.
Local materials were used to build the lodge, energy comes from renewable sources and wastewater is reused.
